Honoris Causa Doctorate Ceremony - Professor Rita Charon

On behalf of the Project in Medical Humanities, it is our pleasure to invite you to the Honoris Causa Ceremony, in honour of Professor Rita Charon, from the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics – Columbia University, NY.

 

The Ceremony will take place at “Salão Nobre” of the Dean’s Building, University of Lisbon, on June 6th 2019 at 11 p.m., with the presence of the Dean.

 

Professor Rita Charon is a general internist (Harvard) and literary scholar at Columbia University in New York, where she teaches medical students about the language of medicine, how to build cooperative relationships with patients, and how to use the imagination in the care of the sick. She founded the Program in Narrative Medicine (2000) and is now Director of the recently created Department for Medical Humanities and Ethics at Columbia (2017). She has been honoured with many achievement awards from medical and literary societies, and she lectures and publishes extensively on Narrative Medicine topics, being  a worldwide reference in this field.
